Sense

i tasted childhood today
sterilised milk
in hot sweet tea
drunk from a stained mug

i heard childhood today
the tick of a wrist watch
found in a drawer
full of old letters

i saw childhood today
a faded photo
laying atop a tallboy
a proud young father
smiles for the camera

i smelt childhood today
a frayed woollen jumper
machine oil
lubricant
sweat
folded on a shelf

i touched childhood today
the kiss
of an old man’s lips
the reassuring hand
on the arm
the smile that says
it’s okay

  1. Poignant, nice, sad and happy…all at the same time! Great job!
