Cracks in the Pavement

She walked towards me

Avoiding the rain

But stepping on the cracks

In the pavement.

I waited until she had passed

Then, stepping out of

The shop doorway

I ran for my car

The rain finding the gap

Between neck and collar.

I had not seen her

Since that last day of school,

I had not spoken to her then

I could not speak now.

Twenty years,

Nothing changed.

It still rained.

She still stepped on the cracks

In the pavement.

  1. hey WoeBegone,

This seems to be an interesting experiment.
Looking forward to more of your poems.
I write poetry too & well, I do have a few unfinished books.
I was not even going to try to revive them. But, now I think I will give it another shot.

    Happy new year to you!
